Still at a chilling -10°C (14°F), I headed south of Ürümqi towards Turpan. Equipped with my Nikon ZF and a zoom lens, I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect. I had no time to plan and just hopped in the car and started driving. Just a camera, one lens, plenty of curiosity, and time for a full day of travel photography.
The scenery along the route was jaw-dropping. We avoided the highway and found ourselves on country roads full of long-haul trucks. Had a great lunch at a local truck stop and ended the day touring a small village built mostly of mud. The area is undergoing rapid development, and I wonder what will remain of the sites I saw in a few years’ time.
